Colposcopy
Colposcopy is a way of looking at the cervix through a special magnifying device called a colposcope. It shines a light onto the vagina and cervix. By magnifying the view of the cervix, it helps to direct a gynecologist's attention to areas of abnormality that may not be apparent with the naked eye. Frequently, a small biopsy of tissue is removed during a colposcopy exam. The tissue will then be sent to the laboratory for further evaluation. We then review all of the data: Pap test, colposcopy impression and biopsy results. Based on this information, we determine a management plan.
