Menopause Menopause is not a disease, but a normal, physiologic process resulting from diminishing hormones and ovulation as women age. Menopause officially starts after 12 consecutive months without a period.
On average, a woman in the United States experiences menopause at age 51. Hormones influencing health and balance in the reproductive years are produced in glands and organs and activated in receptor sites of cells all over the body. When hormone levels drop or become imbalanced at menopause, the effects are likely to be felt both physically and mentally.
A woman spends approximately one-third of her life in the menopausal state. Therefore, it is imperative to help her make this transition optimally. We challenge each of our patients to evaluate her current health status. Menopause presents an opportune “check-point” time to make an honest health assessment -- and to contemplate changes that enrich your quality of life.
