Natural Therapies
Bleeding abnormalities often result from estrogen dominance. During her reproductive years, a woman's ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone. Progesterone is produced after an egg is released each month. When estrogen and progesterone are produced consistently, they work in harmony to create hormone balance. As a woman ages, she ovulates less predictably. This creates a relative imbalance in the ratio between estrogen, which continues to be secreted, and progesterone, which may cease production as a result of anovulation. The resultant estrogen dominance causes myriad symptoms: breast tenderness, abdominal bloating, increased menstrual bleeding, migraine headache, fibroid growth, stimulation of endometriosis, weight gain and exacerbation of premenstrual syndrome. By measuring salivary hormones, we can diagnose and address this imbalance. We then implement therapy to increase progesterone through supplementation and to decrease estrogen burden through dietary changes and nutritional supplementation.
