Perimenopause
Perimenopause encompasses a constellation of symptoms that appears anywhere from several months to several years before menstrual periods stop altogether. During the months or years leading up to menopause, a woman's ovaries begin to produce hormones less regularly. The decrease in female hormones leads to physical and emotional changes. Symptoms include shifts in menstrual pattern and flow, hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbance, vaginal dryness, change in libido, mood swings or fatigue. Social stressors can compound an already physically demanding time in a woman’s life. Job demands and the presence of adolescent and young adult children, aging parents, marital difficulties and health problems often cause women to feel overwhelmed. We take a multifactorial approach in addressing perimenopause -- as symptoms frequently "spill over" into many aspects of a woman’s life.
