Sexual Dysfunction
Female sexuality is one of our most treasured, albeit complex, “gifts.” Sexual dysfunction encompasses conditions such as pain with intercourse, diminished sexual response and diminished libido. Pain is evaluated by careful history taking -- and a detailed but sensitive exam. Diminished sexual response is often hormone related, and it can be managed by replacement of hormonal deficiencies. Decreased libido, however, is a daunting entity. Disorders of desire are not always linked to hormone deficiencies, but are much more closely related to a woman’s psychological state. Stress in the home or at work, strained relationships with partners, health problems, perceived attractiveness in yourself or your partner, sufficient rest, overextended commitments, conflicting schedules… The list goes on and on. Factors that contribute to sexual desire in women are rarely straightforward or cured by a "magic pill." We are committed to helping our patients with these concerns. Sexuality in the context of marriage is extremely important to women and to their spouses. If patients are willing to do the work, we are willing to help.
