Surgical Therapies
We offer a wide range of surgical options to treat bleeding abnormalities in patients who are refractory to traditional medical management. Endometrial ablation is a procedure that has become extremely popular in recent years. It is ideally suited to patients who have completed childbearing, but are experiencing heavy, regular menstrual flow. The technique essentially burns the lining of the uterus that typically sheds each month. As a result, the lining no longer builds up, and menstrual flow is either significantly reduced or ceases altogether. Generally covered by insurance, this method involves a minimal recovery time of 24 hours or so. We offer the procedure in the office with local anesthetic, requiring no hospitalization. If removal of the uterus becomes necessary, we offer abdominal, vaginal and laparoscopically assisted hysterectomies depending on a patient’s circumstances. A myomectomy is a technique that involves the removal of fibroids through small incisions in the uterus in patients who want to preserve fertility.
