Urodynamic Testing The importance of a proper diagnosis cannot be overemphasized, as the successful treatment of urinary incontinence directly relates to correcting the cause of the problem. We offer in-office urodynamic testing that helps to distinguish between the types of leakage that our patients suffer. Once an accurate diagnosis is made, we can offer appropriate treatment. During testing, the amount of urine that sits in the bladder after a voiding attempt is measured to determine how well a patient can empty her bladder. Then, a thin catheter is placed in the bladder and sterile fluid is passed to help determine bladder capacity, signs of involuntary bladder spasms and the strength of the tube that drains the bladder. Patients with bladder spasms -- or urge incontinence
-- may benefit from medication and physical therapy. Women who primarily leak with laughing, coughing, sneezing or lifting -- or stress incontinence -- benefit from physical therapy or surgical treatment.
